Size Guide

Because S/LAB stands for laboratory, we’re sorry to announce that an experiment has escaped from it.
The S/LAB Genesis North Ltd was born from the collaboration between SALOMON & RAVANEL.
On May 11th, 2024, polar lights were observed in Chamonix Mont-Blanc.
This rare experience inspired us to create this unique shoe.

Launch date : 17th of April 2025
Returns are at your expense, but if you follow the size guide, you should be fine.

Scientific Explanation of the Aurora Borealis in Chamonix on May 11, 2024.

The appearance of the aurora borealis over Chamonix was due to an exceptionally strong geomagnetic storm caused by a coronal mass ejection (CME) from the Sun. This storm was part of a significant solar activity event occurring between May 10 and May 13 of 2024. It was the most significant since March 1989.

How Do Auroras Form?

Auroras are caused by interactions between charged particles from the Sun (mainly electrons and protons) and Earth’s magnetosphere. This process can be broken down into several steps:

Solar Activity (Coronal Mass Ejection - CME)

    • The Sun frequently emits bursts of plasma known as CMEs, which contain high-energy charged particles traveling at high speeds.

Interaction with Earth's Magnetosphere

    • When a CME reaches Earth, it compresses the magnetosphere, causing strong geomagnetic disturbances.
    • Charged particles travel along Earth's magnetic field lines toward the polar regions.

Excitation of Atmospheric Atoms

    • When these charged particles collide with atoms and molecules in Earth's upper atmosphere (mainly oxygen and nitrogen), they transfer energy, causing the atoms to enter an excited state.
    • When these atoms return to their normal state, they release photons (light), creating the aurora.

Color Formation

    • Green (most common) → Oxygen atoms at 100-300 km altitude.
    • Red → Oxygen at higher altitudes (above 300 km).
    • Blue & Purple → Nitrogen molecules.
